We have been racing a lot! So much that I've had a hard time updating the blog! So while I watch the final quarter of the much vaunted Lakers vs. Celtics Game 5, I'll attempt to update you all!!!
Quick Recap:
When last we left off we had returned from the State RR and Alex Jarman had joined the DET.
OK-fast forward
May 11th- Alex Jarman (newly minted DET rider) rocked out at the Collegiate National Crit Championship and scored an excellent 19th place. Anytime you pull down a top finish at any National Championship that's huge. Alex has made huge improvments in 2008 and hopefully he'll continue to progress with the DET. That's what we're here for!
May 17-18- DET vacation...much needed.
May 24th- State TT. Alex and Zack headed up the State Individual Time Trial. Both rode well with Zack taking 14th and Alex coming in in 16th. Tough day, but good efforts and good prep for the State TTT in 2 weeks.
May 25th- Barry Wolfe Gran Prix: This race was HAAARRRRDDD. Ow. Lotta pros and allaround good bikers! We hit it from the gun and all the heavies made the break in 5 laps. Like sheep we continued to chase and the pace was evil. Gutter ALL day. Okay; it's just a 4 corner crit. But, man it was fast. Lotta pros can do that. Also a few tight corners and some wind add to it. Sky, Jose, Zack, Alex, and I put in a good effort. Alex and Sky hooked up for the sprint, but they got into traffic. With the top places up the road we all chose to live to fight another day.
May 26th- Long Beach Crit: Ow again. 100km in the wind. This race started fast and kept crackin'!! Again a break formed LAAATE. A few teams missed it, but it (the break) had horsepower and was gone. I was blown as was Zack. We pulled out. Jose, Sky, and Alex flew the flag well. Sky flatted with 2 to go and was bummed-no free lap for him. No big results to report. It was a tough weekend at the office for the DET. Next up Dana Point.
June 1st- Dana Point: Fast. Tight. Lots of $$$. Cool course. It was gonna be a hammerfest. DET fielded a solid squad: Marc, Jose, Zack, Sky, Alex, and me. We rode hard trying to redeem ourselves for the previous weekend and did a good job. We covered all the breaks and closed gaps when we could. It was FAST! Again the late break got away. We were on the wrong side of that, but Zack, Alex, and Sky made a HUGE effort to get to the front for the sprint. Sky and Alex made it to the final stretch, but there was some sketchy bikin' goin on and Alex barely survived for 16th; a very good effort. Sky was in there for 22nd. Not the big top ten we all wanted, but we rode hard and got a good result from the new guy!
Next up: State TTT and Chula Vista.
